Our Shiba Inu Journey: A Tale of Friendship, Tradition, and Dedication

In 1984, a serendipitous turn of events graced our family with the vibrant presence of an exchange student from Japan named Izumi. From the moment she set foot in our home, she formed an instant bond with our oldest daughter. They became inseparable, forging memories on the volleyball court and celebrating their graduation together.

A couple of years later, an invitation to Izumi's wedding took us to a quaint town near Osaka. Here, amidst the joyous celebrations, we encountered a magical slice of Japanese culture. Izumi's father, a dedicated apple tree grower, employed the clever use of Shiba Inus to safeguard his precious sapling trees from unwanted pests. The first time we beheld the enchanting Shoko, a radiant red Shiba Inu guarding his greenhouses, we were smitten.

Eager as we were, we held onto that emotion for two long years. Our patience was rewarded when we were given the opportunity to adopt two female pups from Shoko's very first litter. With the addition of a male pup from a friend of Izumi's father, our family's passion for Shiba Inus truly took root.

Our early years with these canines saw us deeply involved in exhibitions and shows, striving alongside dedicated Shiba enthusiasts from both Canada and the US. Together, we worked relentlessly towards getting this remarkable breed recognized by esteemed institutions like the Canadian Kennel Club and American Kennel Club. Though our exhibition days are behind us, our commitment remains unaltered. Today, our mission is simple: to breed healthy, well-socialized Shiba Inus who seamlessly integrate into loving homes.

A significant feather in our cap is our proud membership with the "Nihon Ken Hozonkai" or NIPPO. Founded in 1928, this Japanese Dog Preservation Society stands as a testament to the dedication of preserving native Japanese breeds. Our kennel, "Shoko Myoki Shiba", proudly holds a NIPPO registration. Upholding the high standards of this revered society, even if it doesn't resonate with the contemporary show standards, is a privilege we cherish.
